You'll be up close and personal in the intimate George R. White Studio at Pittsburgh Opera headquarters, 2425 Liberty Avenue in the Strip District.

The Resident Artists will be introducing themselves through an audition format with one of their favorite arias, followed by an aria chosen by General Director Christopher Hahn, Music Director Antony Walker, and Director of Artistic Operations Bill Powers. Afterwards, the pressure is on. The audience gets to vote on which Resident Artist is brought back out for the final aria. Mingle with the artists afterwards.

Doors open at 5:00 PM. The program begins at 6:00 PM.

CABILDO - Lady Valerie - Central City Opera

Set in New Orleans, Amy Beach’s only opera recounts the legend of a French noblewoman, Lady Valerie, who gives a bracelet to a pirate as a proclamation of her love. When she disappears mysteriously at sea, the pirate, Pierre Lafitte, is accused of her murder, imprisoned and then released in time to defend the city in the War of 1812.

This production features artists of the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation Artists Training Program and is performed in English at Williams Stables Theater in Central City.

Before he wrote his famous Messiah, George Frideric Handel composed a number of beautiful operas. He wrote Richard the Lionheart (Riccardo Primo) for the Royal Academy's 1726–27 opera season. Although it’s been performed numerous times in Europe, this will mark only its second United States performance.

King Richard I of England travels to Cyprus to retrieve his shipwrecked fiancee Costanza. But Isacio, the Governor of Cyprus, wants her for himself. Betrayal, greed, love and war- all the ingredients for a thrilling opera.

Originally censored in Vienna, banned in London, and even protested in New York, Salome is now considered a classic. Salome helped reinforce Strauss’s reputation as “the greatest genius of the age".

Based on the play by the one-and-only Oscar Wilde, Salome recreates the biblical story of King Herod, his daughter Salome and John the Baptist - Jochanaan.

Pittsburgh Opera is thrilled the title role of Salome will be sung by Patricia Racette, who sang the role to critical acclaim last year, including the famous, seductive “Dance of the Seven Veils". Robert Brubaker plays King Herod, and Michaele Martens is Herodias.
