Shannon is an enthusiastic educator in one-on-one and group settings for voice. In addition to her performance career, she has taught as a private voice teacher, and a masterclass clinician for individuals and groups over the past 15+ years.
Lessons & Coaching
Whether students are looking for long-term mentorship, or short-term support, lessons & coaching with Shannon are individualized to students’ needs & goals. Sessions are structured to focus on student's individual progress, including functions of the voice, vocal technique, languages & lyric diction, musical styles, music theory & ear-training, and dramatic interpretation. She also helps students develop methods & sequences for warm-ups, learning music, practice, and performance preparation. Shannon is a speech pathology-informed teacher, with vocal care & mental health as a cornerstone of voice study. This studio is a safe & welcoming space for singers of all abilities, backgrounds, and identities.
Shannon's students have placed into high-level music schools like the Virginia Governor's School for the Arts and Indiana University; district & state-level Thespian festivals, solo & ensemble festivals, and choral festivals; school and community theatre productions; prizes in notable competitions such as the BroadwayWorld’s ‘Next On Stage’ High School Competition, NATS competitions, and Miss America.
Masterclasses
As a masterclass clinician, guest classroom instructor, and director/conductor, Shannon has worked with a wide range of ages and experience levels to improve individual & ensemble techniques. She has experience with elementary/middle/high school choral groups, high school instrumental ensembles, musical theatre students, adult church choirs, and senior adult choirs. She also served as a Virtual Teaching Artist with Palm Beach Opera as part of their Story Time Series for Palm Beach County schools and libraries, leading bilingual opera story time programming in English & Spanish.
Throughout her training and career, Shannon has had the privilege of learning from prominent opera artists such as Ana María Martínez, Latonia Moore, Denyce Graves, and Renée Fleming. As an alumna of the training programs at Wolf Trap Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Palm Beach Opera, and Merola, she has worked with some of the finest teachers, coaches, and artists in the industry. Some of her most influential teachers include soprano Alexandra Loutsion, mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Bishop, and bass-baritone David Okerlund.
Prior to her training in young artist programs and at Florida State University, Shannon had a diverse arts education, growing up in a family of musicians, and in a thriving arts community in central Florida. Her experience included attending the elite FMEA All-State Reading Choir for her sight-reading skills, playing the trumpet for 10 years and serving as Drum Major in her high school's marching band, and winning 1st Place awards in the Florida State Thespian Festivals.
